SNIFFER Staff

Ruth Wolstenholme, MD

Ruth is responsible for leading the company, having been involved in SNIFFER’s growth from a small research coordination role in the early 1990s, to the knowledge broker that it is today.  With previous experience in environmental consultancy and with SEPA, Ruth is enabling the company to develop its partnership role across government/agencies and to a wider sector.


June Graham, Project Manager

June is Project Manager for the European Commission funded URBAN-NET project and leads on strategic development. June’s background is in environmental regulation and protection. She has experience in operations, policy and strategy across several themes including the water environment, climate change and energy. June is on secondment from the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

 


Mark Schubert, Finance & Accounts Manager

Mark joined SNIFFER in August 2010 and is responsible for managing Finance and Procurement. Prior to joining SNIFFER, Mark worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland in Financial Control. Previous to that role, Mark also worked at the Forestry Commission and other private sector organisations.


Kirsty Irving, Programme Manager

Kirsty manages SNIFFER’s sustainable land use and water management topic area and currently manages and delivers projects supporting implementation of the Water Framework Directive and oversees  Flood Risk Management work.  Before joining SNIFFER Kirsty had 10 years experience in the areas of water resource management and demand forecasting in the UK water industry.

 


Julian Holbrook, Programme Coordinator

Julian joined SNIFFER in May 2008 to coordinate the Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership and to provide secretariat services to the Northern Ireland Climate Change Impacts Partnership. Prior to joining SNIFFER, he worked with Scottish Natural Heritage and its predecessors for 18 years on natural heritage trends reporting, environmental indicators, land use strategies, environmental auditing, land cover monitoring and the development of spatial analysis for conservation resource planning.

 


Rebecca Williams, Research Coordinator

Rebecca coordinates and manages research projects for the Environmental Regulation theme. Rebecca’s background is in public and environmental policy research, analysis and development. Prior to joining SNIFFER, Rebecca worked as a consultant to the U.S. government for more than eight years.


Lorraine Fitzgerald, SCCIP Private Sector Officer

Lorraine is the Private Sector Officer for the Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership (SCCIP) responsible for liaising with business and industry on the issue of climate change adaptation. Prior to joining SNIFFER, Lorraine worked in consultancy in Ireland on environmental awareness campaigns and stakeholder consultation projects in the areas of climate change, energy, waste, biodiversity and planning


Paul Sizeland, Programme Manager

Paul manages the Sustainable Places and Climate Change topic areas. Paul’s previous work includes two years managing the URBAN-NET project for SNIFFER, four years as business consultant for SEPA, nine years managing rural and social development projects in Nepal for international aid agencies and ten years land-based forestry and biodiversity work in Scotland for private and charitable companies.

 


Anna Beswick, SCCIP Public Sector Officer

Anna joined SNIFFER in November 2009 and is Public Sector Officer for the Scottish Climate Change Impacts Partnership (SCCIP). Anna works with a wide range of public sector organisations to raise awareness of the impacts and consequences of climate change. Prior to joining SNIFFER Anna managed a variety of public projects for environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful.


Rachel Moir, Research Coordinator

Rachel is a Research Coordinator with SNIFFER, currently focusing on projects within Water Framework Directive and River Restoration work. Rachel has over 10 years experience in environmental science communications and five years technical experience in land, water and waste management. Prior to joining SNIFFER, Rachel worked as an environmental consultant in the private sector and as a Local Council project manager.


Chris Berry, Communications & Project Manager

Chris has worked for SNIFFER since February 2011. He is responsible for providing communication services for SNIFFER and the projects for which the organisation is responsible, in order to maximise engagement with target audiences and stakeholder groups. Originally trained as a marine biologist, Chris has previously worked as director of the Scottish Parliament’s Festival of Politics engagement initiative, and as a consultant providing communication and policy guidance services to environmental organisations.


Michael Snow, Business Administrator

Michael has worked for SNIFFER since October 2010. He is responsible for project and business administration within SNIFFER. Michael has a variety of experience in financial administration, office & database management, web-editing, analytics and graphic design, in both private and public sectors.


Janet Forbes, UKTAG coordinator

Janet coordinates the UK Technical Advisory Group (UKTAG) which develops the scientific input by the Environment and Conservation Agencies for the implementation of the Water Framework Directive. Prior to joining SNIFFER, Janet has had experience in water and waste management for Scottish Water and the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme.


Annika Clements, NICCIP coordinator

Annika joined SNIFFER in June 2011 as Coordinator of the Northern Ireland Climate Change Impacts Partnership (NICCIP) and is based in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. Annika provides secretariat support for the partnership, and is working to develop additional services to promote adaptation awareness and planning in Northern Ireland. Prior to joining SNIFFER Annika worked in government-funded research in marine ecology for eight years, additionally providing Geographic Information System (GIS) support to maritime archaeology programmes more recently. Annika has also worked as a part-time lecturer in environmental science.


Ragne Low, Knowledge Officer

Ragne is the Knowledge Officer in ClimateXChange – Scotland’s Centre of Expertise on Climate Change. Her role in ClimateXChange’s Secretariat is to help align research outputs with policy needs and to promote knowledge exchange between the research community and policy-makers. Ragne comes from a public policy background, with 8 years’ experience of working in central government, and more recently has also worked in climate chance consultancy.


Paul Georgie, Data & Information Officer

Paul is the Data and Information Officer in ClimateXChange – Scotland’s Centre of Expertise on Climate Change – and is responsible for harmonising the use of datasets relating to the centre’s core activities and promoting the integration of information amongst its members. Prior to joining Sniffer, Paul worked in various international development projects, up-scaling the use of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and supporting programmes in public health (South Africa / Mozambique), renewable energy and environmental sustainability (Tanzania), and post-conflict reconstruction and demining (Southern Sudan).
