SNIFFER is meeting with other European partners on 26th September to commence a new transnational project on urban sustainability called “Urban Nexus”.
The project will enable opportunities for building problem-solving partnerships fundamental to addressing economic, social and environmental issues presented by modern urban lifestyles – the daily reality for 80% of Europe’s population. The project will facilitate knowledge exchange on urban planning, development and management across a broad range of networks and organisations from the public, private and civil society sectors, including municipalities, national ministries, innovation clusters, research institutes and NGOs.
SNIFFER will lead work on adapting to climate change, drawing on our knowledge and experience gained through Adaptation Scotland (formerly SCCIP) and NICCIP, as well from the coordination of the URBAN-Net project (2006-2011). An international workshop, hosted by SNIFFER in 2012, will bring together experts, practitioners, and policy-makers engaged in urban sustainability and climate change issues.
The project comes at an exciting time with Scotland’s own increasingly important cities agenda, being led by Deputy First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP. Urban Nexus will provide an opportunity to showcase, both in Europe and internationally, the efforts and progress being made in Scotland to create cities that are connected, innovative, economically strong, socially inclusive and environmentally attractive places to live. Urban Nexus is funded for three years under the European Commission’s Framework Programme 6.
