An exciting opportunity to join our dynamic organisation that is fostering collaboration across sectors and places to ensure transformation towards a flourishing and fairer future for all in a changing climate.

With the climate as our entry point, Sniffer takes a distinct approach to drive forward the change we need. We go deeper, examine structures, and provide a route-map for action. In partnership with academia, government, and technical experts; we create spaces for organisations and places to come together and flourish in the face of environmental and societal impacts.

Sniffer is part of the global movement for change and is passionate about working towards a fairer future for all.  We are an agile organisation of ten staff based in Edinburgh. We have high profile within our existing sphere of influence and are poised to have greater impact in new sectors.

Our values: Collaborative and partnership focused; fair and inclusive; knowledgeable; change making; creative and innovative

What the role involves

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the strategic direction and leadership of the charity as well as governance. Trustees contribute their knowledge and expertise to help the senior management team achieve their exciting vision.

We are looking for strategic thinkers who can offer knowledge and expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Communication and raising the profile of a charity working on the impacts of a changing climate
  • Charity finances and income generation with experience/links to fundraising in this arena, with a particular focus on third sector funding sources
  • Legal and professional skills

Who you are

The ideal person will have:

  • experience in one of the areas above
  • a history of demonstrating  fairness, promoting diversity and inclusion
  • ability to respect confidence and demonstrate effective decision making

Although desirable, it is not essential to have previous Trustee experience.

We are actively seeking to attract and support a diversity of backgrounds, experience and thinking on our Board. We encourage applicants from all backgrounds to apply.

Expectations of the role

The Board meets at least every three months. Meetings are typically three hours and are held online although the expectation is that two or more meetings will be held in Edinburgh each year, and it is expected that Trustees be willing to attend such in person meetings. On occasion this may extend to a full day meeting with staff.

The role is for an initial three year term.

What we offer

Although unremunerated this offers an exceptional opportunity to play a key role in ensuring Sniffer helps communities, organisations, and businesses to understand, anticipate, and transform in the face of climate change.

Becoming a Trustee provides excellent opportunity for professional development and learning new skills, along with other board members.
