We would like to invite you to join us at Scotland’s annual Flood Risk Management Conference in 2021. It will come as no surprise that the event will be a virtual conference

The theme for FRM 2021 is Flood Risk Management and Green Recovery. In September, the Scottish Government announced a package of environmental, regulatory and fiscal reforms to recover prosperity after the COVID-19 pandemic. An additional £500 million is being invested in Scotland’s natural economy including £150 million to help deliver a 50% increase in woodland creation by 2024 and an extra £150 million for flood risk management, vital to increasing climate change resilience. The plans, outlined in the Programme for Government 2020/21, are among a range of measures to protect biodiversity, create green jobs and accelerate a just transition to net-zero. FRM2021 will seek to explore the role of flood risk management in the green recovery and lessons that can be learned from the pandemic, about how we deal with future crises.

We believe that the traditional format of a 2 day event action-packed with speakers would be overwhelming in a virtual setting so we are busy planning a conference programme over 5 days - featuring 2-3 hours of content per day. Each day will be dedicated to a different theme of interest to the flood risk management community and wider society.

We are keen for this to be an inclusive event that fosters the multidisciplinary solutions we need to address the changing flood risk that Scotland is facing. So sessions are aimed at a broad community from public sector to flood risk management professionals and elected members, from developers, planners, and architects to community groups, and from regulators to landowners and the agro-forestry sectors.
