At Sniffer, we are committed to protecting personal information, and we take our responsibilities regarding the security of supporter and partner information very seriously. This Privacy Notice explains what personal data we may collect about you. It also explains how we will store and handle that data and keep it safe.

Sniffer owns, controls and is responsible for the Adaptation Scotland web page and the Climate Ready Clyde web page held on our site; this policy applies to all said web pages.

  • Occasionally we may need to contact you by mail, email and/or telephone for administrative or operational reasons. We will also use your personal data if we contact you after you have sent us a request, filled in a web form through our website or contacted us on social media. 

How do we keep your data safe? 

We ensure that there are appropriate technical controls in place to protect your personal details; for example, our online forms are always encrypted, and our network is protected. We store Data in password-protected systems and confidential paper records are locked away. 

We undertake regular reviews of who has access to information that we hold to ensure that your information is only accessible by appropriately trained staff of Sniffer.

If you are under 18 and would like to get involved with Sniffers’ work or campaigns, please ensure you have the consent from a parent or guardian before giving us your personal information. 

We will only ever collect or process any personal information for a child under 18 with explicit parental consent. When we collect information about a child or young person aged under 18, we will make clear the reasons for collecting this information, as well as how the information will be used. 

Sharing personal data 

Sniffer does not share your data with any other charity, public body, or commercial organisation, unless we must do so either for legal or compliance reasons, or where you have given permission for us to do so. 

If you have consented to be a part of our work and projects, we may share your personal data with other organisations involved or a part of these activities, solely for operational reasons relating to the project you are involved. We will only share your data with partners whom themselves have defined and robust policies and procedures in place to keep your data safe and secure. Should you wish for us not to share your data, you can instruct us to do so at any time.  

Legal duty: We may need to pass on personal information if required by law or by a regulatory body. For example, if requested as part of an audit or by a law enforcement agency. 

Time period Sniffer will retain your personal data 

Whenever we collect or process your personal data, we will only keep it for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it was collected. At the end of that retention period, your data will either be deleted completely or anonymised.
