Becoming Climate Resilient training

Our training explores climate adaptation, climate risk, and opportunities to build resilience and a fairer, flourishing future. Becoming Climate Resilient is a one-day course, developed by Sniffer and endorsed by the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute.

As climate change brings about more frequent and severe disruption across the systems we all rely upon, building resilience is an increasingly urgent priority for businesses, government and communities. Yet, adapting to climate change remains a new challenge for many.

Even if we rapidly reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, we are still locked into significant climate impacts. That’s why it is important to not only focus on cutting emissions, but also to take actions to adapt to a changing climate.

Adaptation is critical for a thriving society and this course is fundamental in supporting a vital understanding of climate impacts, adaptation options and pathways to implementation
Dr Kate Donovan, Co-Director of the Edinburgh Climate Change Institute

Training for organisations (session for up to 10 participants)

Choose a date that suits your team and book a training day with Sniffer. Training can be focused on the context of your organisation, using sector-relevant climate impacts and adaptation responses.  To discuss training for your team, please contact [email protected]

What you will learn

Learning outcomes:

  1. Understand responses to climate change, and what is meant by adaptation and mitigation
  2. Explore climate trends and projections for Scotland and identify physical climate risks
  3. Understand drivers for adaptation action
  4. Identify opportunities for co-benefits of climate adaptation
  5. Explore case studies of resilience and adaptation in action

I thought the day was fantastic overall: really informative and wide-ranging. I particularly enjoyed the way it was split into 5 clear modules.

Training participant, April 2023

How will the course be run?

This 5-hr short course will be delivered online (MS Teams) and will consist of presentations, interactive workshops, and group discussion. This format will allow you to engage with other participants, and opportunities to apply learning to your organisation’s context.

Delivery was brilliant, fantastic-ally presented by all, very informative and helped clear up some terms I was struggling with. Thank you!

Training participant, January 2023

Who is this suitable for?

This course is designed for businesses and organisations. Training is aimed at those with some understanding of climate change, however no specific knowledge of climate resilience and adaptation is required. Please note that the content of this course is most relevant to a Scottish context, however participants based outside of Scotland are welcome to participate.

I really enjoyed the parts about the practical applications of resilience, particularly the parts about how to make our own organisations more resilient.
